The Chilean government on Friday recognized Alassane Ouattara as president-elect of Cote d'Ivoire.
"The international community is doing diplomatic procedures for Laurent Gbagbo to leave the power in a peaceful way," the Chilean Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Chile's recognition of Ouattara as president-elect is aimed to avoid continuation of this electoral crisis, which has so far killed more than 100 people and displaced hundreds others.
Chile urged Gbagbo to transfer the power to the elected president, Ouattara, in order to preserve the people's will and let the country recover its political stability, and respect democracy and the State of Law.
Cote d'Ivoire is in a political crisis since the presidential run-off in late November, after which both the incumbent President Gbagbo and his opponent Ouattara claimed victory and inaugurated their own governments.
The United Nations, the African Union and the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) have all openly supported Ouattara, whose victory was announced by the Independent Electoral Commission, but annulled by the Constitutional Council.
