Egyptian opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei joined protesters in Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo late Sunday, Al Jazeera TV reported.
ElBaradei told a crowd of protesters in Cairo on Sunday night that change can only come from Egypt itself.
"What we have begun cannot go back," ElBaradei said.
Thousands of people defied a curfew and stood at Cairo's downtown Tahrir Square chanting anti-government slogans. The crowd demanded President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak step down, despite the promises for change he has made.
Mubarak has appointed a new vice president, but the protesters remain unsatisfied.
