Israeli airplanes attacked a Palestinian car carrying militants in southern Gaza Strip Thursday, witnesses and security sources said.

The witnesses added that the pick-up truck was travelling along Gaza-Egypt border in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah when the airstrike occurred.

Medical sources said that the attack left six Palestinians wounded, most of them militants.

An Israeli unmanned drone fired missile at the vehicle when it was close to smuggling tunnels that extend under the border.

Ambulances and firefighters have evacuated the casualties to Abu Yousef al-Najjar hospital in the city.

Tension has been high over the past 24 hours, with Palestinian militants firing rockets into Israel in response to the death of a militant in an Israeli incursion Wednesday.
