Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed by Indian army and police Saturday in a gunfight in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The gunfight broke out Friday night in the village of Lahend Habdipora of Shopian district, around 56 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Two militants were killed in a gunfight today. The operation was carried out on a specific information last night. The exchange of fire took place Friday night for couple of hours and later on we suspended the operation because of poor visibility. Early this morning the firing was resumed and in the standoff the two militants were killed," said Mubashir Lateefi, Superintendent of Police Kulgam at the site of gunfight.
The slain militants were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Chopan and Khurshid Ahmad Yatoo of Shopian. Both had joined the LeT outfit recently and were working as local carders, police said.
Police also claimed recovery of two assault rifles from the site.
