Benin's Constitutional Court on Monday morning confirmed the re-election of the country's incumbent president Boni Yayi.
Yayi was re-elected for another five year term on March 13, 2011 with 53.14 percent of the votes cast during the first round of the presidential election.
Main opposition candidate Me Adrien Houngbedji came in second position with 35.64 percent while Abdoulaye Bio Tchane, the ex- president of the West African Development Bank (BOAD) obtained 6.4 percent of the votes cast.
The partial results that were published on Friday by the country's National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA) had indicated that Yayi had been re-elected with 53 percent of the votes cast.
These partial results published by CENA had been greatly contested by the candidates who came in the second and third positions.
The coalition that supports Bio Tchane had even demanded for a cancellation of results due to "massive fraud and serious irregularities."
Benin's constitution provides that the results announced by the Constitutional Court are provisional.
Candidates and political parties can contest these results at the same court after which, the court would examine the case and declare the final results.
A total of 14 candidates contested in this presidential election which was termed as free and fair by international observers who included those from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU).
