China on Thursday welcomed and congratulated on the reconciliation between the two leading Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas, and appreciated the efforts from all sides including Egypt.

"We hope it (the reconciliation) will help enhance unity and cooperation in Palestine, and promote the peace process in the Middle East," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu at a regular press briefing Thursday afternoon.

Jiang's remarks came after Palestine's main political factions celebrated in Cairo Wednesday the signing of the reconciliation agreement between the Fatah and Hamas movements.
