Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday his country has guaranteed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi could go anywhere if he chooses to leave the North African country.
"Gaddafi has no other choice but to leave Libya, with the guarantee given to him ... We ourselves have offered him this guarantee, via the representatives we've sent," he said in an interview with the NTV channel.
"We told him we would help him to be sent wherever he wanted to be sent ... Depending on the response we receive, we will discuss the issue with our allies," said the prime minister, whose country is a NATO member.
"Unfortunately, we still haven't received a response from Gaddafi," Erdogan said, without specifying when the offer was made.
The Turkish government proposed a roadmap in April to end the conflict, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the initiation of a political reform among others.
In early May, Ankara toughened its position on Gaddafi, with Erdogan urging the embattled Libyan leader to step down and leave his country.
Despite mounting pressure, Gaddafi has vowed that he would never leave Libya.
