11 killed in boat sinking in Bali

Eleven people were killed and 14 others went missing after a boat sank in waters off Bali island of Indonesia on Wednesday, rescuers said.

The boat broke down one mile after leaving the seaport at Jungut Batu of Lembangan after midnight, Kadek Adi Yuda, rescuers at Bali Search and Rescue Office told Xinhua by phone.

The rescue operations by rescuers and sailors with the help of helicopters and ships for the missing are underway, said Yuda. So far, eleven people had been rescued safely, he said.

The boat was toward Toyopakek of Bali, said Yuda. According to a survivor, the boat was hit by huge waves, he said. But he did not say how many passengers were aboard the boat as the accident happened.
