Chairman of the Libyan National Transitional Council(NTC) Mustafa Abdul Jalil met with visiting European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek Saturday, calling for strengthened cooperation between the two sides.

Calling the European Union(EU) as the closest friend of the Libyan people, Jalil hailed the supports from EU and its member countries during the NTC forces' battles with loyalists of the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

"European Union and NATO have played important roles during our revolution," said Jalil, expressing hopes that the two sides can witness equal cooperation in fields like economy, politics and military in the "post-Gaddafi era."

"I hope this visit will promote cooperation between the two sides to a new level in the future," said Jalil, adding that the European Parliament has offered much assistance to Libya.

Buzek thanked Jalil for his invitation by offering his best regards to the Libyan people.

"All the issues of Libya should be decided by the Libyan people, " said Buzek, pledging to offer "required" help to Libya.

According to Buzek, the two sides have reached some agreements in training young Libyan politicians and founding political parties.
