In response to continued riots in Libya, the Chinese government decided to evacuate all Chinese citizens from the country. A total of 35,860 Chinese citizens were evacuated by March 2, 2011. It was the largest and most complicated overseas evacuation ever conducted by the Chinese government since the country's founding in 1949.
