Afghan security forces captured a Taliban key commander Kochanai Mullah Abdul Bari in Helmand province, 555 km south of Afghan capital Kabul, on Monday, a press release of the provincial administration said.

"Kochani Mullah Abdul Bari had served as commander of Taliban rebels in the districts of Baghran, Kajaki, Nad Ali and Musa Qala, " the press release said.

He was also an expert in making mines and organizing roadside bombs against the Afghan and NATO-led forces, the press release added.

Without giving more details, the press release said that capturing Mullah Bari is a major setback to the Taliban insurgents.

Meantime, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in a statement released said that the alliance captured a Taliban leader in Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province on Monday.

The arrested Taliban leader, according to the statement, directed the placement of roadside bombs and coordinated attacks against the Coalition forces.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have yet to make comment.
