Cuban police seized in 2011 a total of 9,181 kilograms of drugs, the highest amount of the last 7 years, official daily Granma reported Friday.
Granma said 399 stashes of drugs were uncovered on waters near its coast.
Granma blamed the U.S. drug market for the increase of the drug trafficking near Cuban territorial waters, saying that the National Drug Commission ordered all the government and military institutions to prevent and fight the drug trafficking.
Cuba has signed international agreements against the drug and human trafficking.
Cuba maintained a cautious collaboration with the United States in its struggle against drugs, though the two broke off diplomatic relations 50 years ago.
