The toll of the injured rose to 228 in Thursday's earthquake in the northeast of Iran, the semi- official Mehr news agency reported Friday.
An official in Iran's northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi told Mehr that by 14:00 local time (10:30 GMT) on Friday, 228 people were reported as injured in Thursday's earthquake.
An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted northeastern Iran at 16:05 local time (12:35 GMT) on Thursday, the epicenter of which was in Neyshabur region 64 km to the west of Iran's northeastern holy city of Mashhad.
Hojjat-Ali Shayanfar told Mehr on Friday that "out of 228 injured people, only 38 were hospitalized" and others received brief treatments and were discharged from hospitals in Neyshabur in early hours after the incident.
The majority of the injured suffered from fractures and bruises in different parts of their bodies, Shayanfar was quoted as saying.
