Two American tourists and their Egyptian guide were kidnapped by local Bedouins in Egypt's South Sinai, a security source told Xinhua on Friday.
The three were on their way back from a visit to a local monastery when they were kidnapped, the source said.
The kidnappers' demands remain unclear.
Spokeswoman of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo Katharina Sweet told Xinhua she had heard of the news but could not confirm it.
On Jan. 31, Bedouins in Arish, North Sinai, held 25 Chinese workers for nearly 16 hours before their safe release. The kidnappers demanded the release of their relatives detained by the authorities.
