Japan's Emperor Akihito underwent a heart test after he was admitted to the University of Tokyo Hospital on Saturday, local media reported.
The emperor got an hour-long scan of his coronary arteries, according to local media reports. The 78-year-old emperor was accompanied by Empress Michiko to the hospital. The emperor is scheduled to be discharged Sunday and the Imperial Household Agency plans to release test results within a few days.
The test was arranged after an electrocardiogram suggested a possible deficient blood supply to the heart, according to Kyodo News.
The emperor had an angiogram examination at the same hospital in February last year. Doctors found his arteries were narrowing and hardening at that time.
Akihito, who ascended the throne in 1989, underwent treatment for prostate cancer in 2003. He was hospitalized for more than two weeks for bronchial pneumonia last November.
