A woman was shot and wounded by a man who later killed himself when confronted by police on Wednesday at a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. distribution center in the U.S. state of Virginia, local officials said.
The shooting took place in a facility in Dinwiddie County, about 30 miles south of Richmond. Local WRIC TV, which serves the Richmond/Petersburg area, quoted officials as saying a 40-year-old female victim suffered injuries described as "not life-threatening, " while the suspected male shooter killed himself.
Other reports said the 32-year-old male shooter shot his victim, a manager, in the leg. When local law-enforcement officers responded to the emergency call prompted by the shooting, they saw the man outside the facility, and were shot at by him with a handgun.
The man then fatally shot himself in the chest. Neither his nor the female victim's names were released. The female victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital around noon.
The motives behind the shooting remain unclear at the moment, and reports said there were no clear disputes between the man and the woman. They were both from Petersburg.
After the shooting, local police locked down the facility and a nearby school as a precautionary measure. The lockdown has been lifted since.
The distribution center employs about 600 people, serving 72 stores and has been in the county for 20 years.
