"Australia and China: a Joint Report into the Bilateral Relationship" was launched on Monday in Beijing.
Frances Adamson, Australian ambassador to China |
The reported was co-written by researchers at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations and the Australian National University's Australian Centre on China in the World.
"The Australia-China bilateral relationship, as the report accurately points out, is overwhelmingly a positive story,” said Frances Adamson, Australian ambassador to China, at the launching reception.
"As the Report rightly acknowledges, there will of course be unavoidable frictions, and the differences in our values and political systems will remain."
"Much of this we cannot control, but through increased dialogue, mutual understanding and reflection, Australia and China can certainly be better placed to understand each other."
"The first principle is that a stronger bilateral relationship will require deeper links in all areas and an expansion of the relationship into new areas. All those involved in the relationship should seek new opportunities for engagement," says the report.
