The government of Afghanistan once again repeated the offer for talks with the Taliban outfit on Tuesday.
"The government of Afghanistan supports talks with the armed opposition groups and is ready to negotiate with those who sever ties with al-Qaida, renounce violence and accept the country's constitution," Afghan Vice President Mohammad Qasim Fahim said in his remarks to celebrate Nawroz or the first day of the solar New Year 1391 which falls on March 20.
Nawroz, a Persian word which means new year, is celebrated in Afghanistan, Iran, parts of Pakistan, Tajikistan and some parts of other Central Asian states.
However, he noted that there will be no compromise over the achievements that have been made over the past decade, saying the freedom of press, human rights, women's rights and the constitution will be safeguarded in any talks with the armed opposition groups.
He made this comment in the wake of Taliban inflexibility, as the Taliban fighters, the main armed anti-government outfit, has repeatedly refused to talk with the Afghan administration in the presence of NATO-led forces.
In a statement released last Thursday the Taliban outfit has also suspended talks with the U.S. reportedly opened in Qatar months ago.
