An unspecified number of people were trapped under debris after a four-story factory building collapsed Monday at dawn in the northern Indian state of Punjab, said police.
The incident took place at the Sheetal Blanket Factory of Focal Point area near Jalandhar, police said.
So far 45 people have been rescued from the debris, said local TV channel Times Now.
TV footage showed the factory site was sealed off by police and the whole cement and concrete building reduced to debris. The wounded were shown sent to hospitals for intensive care and treatment.
There is so far no confirmation yet on the exact number of people trapped and the cause of the mishap was yet to be ascertained.
Press Trust of India cited an official as saying that help has also been sought from the National Disaster Response Force, whose personnel were expected to reach the site later Monday.
