One person was reportedly killed in the earthquake of 5.8 magnitude that rock central and northern Italy on Tuesday.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 hit central and northern Italy on Tuesday morning.

Some people were also injured in the second quake that struck at 9 a.m. local time (0700 GMT) in 10 days, according to Italian media reports.

Alberto Silvestri, the mayor of the San Felice sul Panaro, told an Italian TV channel that some people have been buried under the rubble."

According to Italy's Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the earthquake, which occurred at 9:00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT), had its epicenter between the central cities of Modena and Ferrara at a depth of 10 km.

Some buildings reportedly were further damaged as the area was already hit by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake on May 21 that killed at least seven people and injured dozens of others.

A series of aftershocks has hit central Italy in the past few days in the same area, where thousands of people are still out of home as new shakes were expected and many buildings have collapsed or damaged.
