5 dead, 15 injured as gunmen attack Nigerian church

At least five people were confirmed dead and 15 others seriously injured when gunmen attacked a church on Sunday in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria's Borno State, according to a local Xinhua reporter.

The reporter said he counted five bodies at the EYN Gara local church where the incident occurred, while the severely injured victims of the attack were being taken to a nearby federal medical facility in neighboring Gombe State.
"Two vehicles were burnt in the gunfire," he added.
State commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Col. Victor Ebhaleme confirmed the incident to Xinhua on phone, saying the gunmen were suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect.
"Military forces have cordoned off the area and there's an ongoing manhunt for the terrorists," he disclosed.
No organizations have yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
On June 8, seven people including a suicide bomber, two policemen and four civilians were killed on Friday in an attack on the police headquarters in Maiduguri.
