A Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday refuted criticism on China's carbon emissions.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin told a daily press briefing that the current climate change problems have been caused by developed countries in their long history of economic development.

The high amount of carbon emissions in developed countries was reflected in the total, per capita and per capita historical cumulative numbers, he said, noting that people should take an integrated, comprehensive and historical view on the climate change issue.

Carbon emissions in developing countries may see reasonable growth, as they are facing the arduous tasks of reducing poverty and improving people's lives, according to the spokesman.

China and other developing countries have taken many positive actions in dealing with the climate change issue despite difficulties, Liu said, adding that their efforts have generally been recognized by the international community.
