At least 20 persons have been killed and many others seriously injured during Friday night's attacks against villagers in central north Nigeria's Plateau State, a top government official told Xinhua on Saturday.

Majority leader of the state Assembly Gyang Fulani told Xinhua that more than 20 people were killed on Friday night in Gashik District of Barkinladi Local government area of the state by yet to be identified gunmen, who invaded nine villages of the locality.

Fulani is representing Barkinladi state constituency at the state legislature level.

The lawmaker said the casualty level might increase, stressing that many have been hospitalized following the attack.

Spokesperson for the Special Task-force (STF) Captain Salisu Mustapha said the casualty level may be high, as the attacker's numbering about 100 were reportedly using dangerous weapons during the mayhem.

Jos has recently witnessed some bomb blasts and constant rifts between Berom and Fulani herdsmen, with many, especially women and children, murdered in cold blood in the state.

Last Saturday, the police reportedly detonated two bombs in a place called Riyom, also in the state.
