According to an announcement by the organizers of the Confucius Peace Prize on Sunday, other nominees include former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, his successor Ban Ki-moon, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Chinese social activist Wang Dingguo, Peking University Prof. Tang Yijie, and Chinese scientist Yuan Longping.

The award was founded in Chinese mainland in 2010 with professors and academics as its sponsors.

The first accolade went to Lian Zhan, Honorary Chairman of the Kuomintang of China. Last year, it went to Russia's Vladimir Putin for crushing anti-government forces in Chechnya.
