A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday condemned a car bomb attack which rocked Beirut of Lebanon recently, and urged timely investigation of the incident.

"China is firmly opposed to terrorism in all its forms, and strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Beirut," said Hong Lei at a regular press conference after a car bomb attack on Friday killed eight people including Lebanese Internal Security Forces' information branch chief Wissam al-Hassan.

More than 80 others were injured in the bombing, the first of its kind in Beirut since 2008.

"We hope the truth of the incident will be found out as soon as possible," Hong said.

He added that China was highly concerned with the situation in Lebanon. The country hopes all parties involved maintain unity and restraint, solve issues through dialogue and consultation, and jointly safeguard Lebanon's stability and security, according to Hong.
