The Philippines refused to stamp entry visas for the new computer-chipped Chinese passports on Wednesday, after Vietnam made the same move over China's claim of the much disputed South China Sea, people.com.cn reports.

China issues a new computer-chipped passport (R) that features the map showing the South China Sea as Chinese territory on the 8th page.

A map showing the South China Sea as Chinese territory is featured on the 8th page of the new Chinese passport, and the Philippines is reinforcing its protest against China's claim by issuing Chinese arrivals separate visas instead of stamping the passports.

The Philippines' Department of Foreign Affairs says that stamping the passports would "legitimize China's claim" and that they are "working on a new tactic against China's new passports".

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying says the new Chinese passports comply with international standards and are not intended against any country or region.
