Rocket fire from the Gaza Strip toward Israel has increased dramatically in November, Israel's Shin Bet security service reported Thursday.
A total of 1,734 rockets and 83 mortar shells were fired in 637 attacks during the Israeli army's eight-day Operation "Pillar of Defense" two weeks ago to quell incessant rocket attacks from the coastal territory, according to the agency's "Monthly Terrorism Update."
In comparison, 116 rockets and 55 mortars were fired in October, and 17 rockets and eight mortars in September, the report said.
Five attacks also occurred within Israel: a bus bombing in Tel Aviv which wounded 29 civilians; two stabbings in the southern city of Be'er Sheva; two firebombings in the north; and three rockets that were fired from the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula during the operation, according to Shin Bet.
Six Israelis were killed in the rocket strikes, four of them civilians, and 269 were wounded, most of whom sustained light injuries, the report said.
