A Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Thursday said China welcomes a consensus made by Nepal's political parties regarding the formation of their government.

"China welcomes the consensus made on the constitutional process and the establishment of the Interim Election Council," spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing.

Nepal's political parties on Wednesday signed a package deal in which they agreed to set up an interim government under the leadership of sitting Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi.

The 11-point deal allows Regmi to hold the second Constituent Assembly elections by June 21 in the capacity of chairperson of the Interim Election Council. He will be required to hand over power to the government formed after the elections.

China expects Nepal's political parties to seek a political consensus through dialogue, conclude the constitutional process and attain political stability and economic development, Hua said.
