Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Savinykh Tuesday denied rumors that Edward Snowden asked for political asylum in Belarus.

The American had not talked to the representatives of the Republic of Belarus to grant him political asylum, Savinykh said.

Earlier the first deputy chairman of the Russian Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov said Snowden can go from Moscow to Minsk.

"I believe that, despite all the anxiety associated with it, Russia can give him asylum. Snowden can go to Belarus, in this case, Russia will act as a transit, but without the participation of Russia, the issue will not be solved ," Kalashnikov said.
