Greek citizens are divided over Greece's future membership in the European Union (EU) and the euro, an opinion poll showed on Thursday.
In the survey conducted by Public Issue polling firm for Greek television station SKAI, about 55 percent of the respondents appear to have a negative stance towards the EU, one Greece's major creditors since 2010 under bailout deals to keep it afloat, while 51 percent have a positive view for the European common currency.
Seven out of 10 respondents believe that the current coalition government's policies are leading the country to the wrong direction and feel pessimistic over their personal income, as they already face great difficulties in their daily life.
According to the same poll, the anti-bailout main opposition Radical Left SYRIZA party would win 29 percent of votes if national elections were held now, while the ruling conservative New Democracy party would come second with 28 percent.
The far-Right Chryssi Avgi (Golden Dawn) party would rank third with 13 percent of votes followed by the socialist PASOK party, the junior partner in the two-partite coalition government, with 7 percent.
Sixty percent of respondents stated they did not want polls now, but 57 percent said the snap elections were inevitable.
