South Korean President Park Geun-hye and visiting U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden agreed on Friday to join hands to denuclearize the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Seoul's Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se told reporters at a press briefing that Park and Biden have agreed to make further efforts to achieve a "substantive progress" in dismantling the DPRK's nuclear program based on the close bilateral cooperation and firm deterrence against possible nuclear and missile threats from Pyongyang.

The minister made the remarks to brief reporters on the meeting between Park and Biden held in presidential office Cheong Wa Dae.

Yun said that Seoul and Washington have heeded China's efforts to help achieve the goal of the denuclearized DPRK under the principle that Pyongyang's nuclear weapons are "unacceptable," noting that the two allies shared views on the need to make efforts to encourage Pyongyang to show its sincerity towards the denuclearization together with participants of the six-party talks.
