A 51-year-old Danish woman has been allegedly robbed and then gangraped by a group of eight men in the Indian capital late last night, a police official said Wednesday.
"The Danish tourist was robbed and then gangraped by the men whom she had approached after she lost her way near Connaught Place at the heart of the national capital while returning to her hotel following a visit to a museum," he said, on condition of anonymity.
The woman subsequently managed to get back to her hotel and narrated her ordeal to its manager who, in turn, informed the police.
"We have detained 15 suspects in the case and will bring the perpetrators to justice," the official added.
Local TV channels reported that the Danish tourist has left India for her country by an early morning flight after the Danish Embassy was apprised of the incident.
The latest gangrape came barely a year after a Swiss woman was allegedly gangraped by a group of men in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh while she was on a cycling tour with her husband.
