The flu-related death toll in Greece surpassed 100 this year, according to the latest data released by the Centre for Control and Prevention of Diseases on Thursday, as the cycle of the seasonal influenza outbreak nears its end.
A total of 104 patients succumbed due to complications after being infected with the flu virus out of 277 hospitalized since autumn.
Experts attribute the high number of casualties in comparison to last year -- when Greece had reported 49 such deaths -- to the low percentages of people suffering from chronic diseases who were inoculated this year.
According to estimates, only one out of three Greeks belonging to high-risk groups got vaccinated this year.
