Death toll rose to 292 in the South Korean ferry sinking disaster as divers recovered one more body late on Sunday, the disaster response center said Monday.

Koh Myung-seok, spokesman of the pan-government disaster response center, told a press briefing that one male body was retrieved from the left side on the fourth floor of the five-story vessel Sunday night.

On the 55th day into search, 292 passengers have been confirmed dead, with 12 others still missing. No survivors have been reported since 172 people were saved from the ship and sea on April 16 when the ferry Sewol capsized and sank off the southwestern coast.

Divers cut open windows in the ship's rear side to pull out floating objects and enter the passenger cabins where the remaining missing were believed to be trapped.
