Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday condoled the loss of lives in the Malaysian plane crash in Ukraine Thursday.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives on board Flight MH17. We stand with them in this hour of grief," Modi tweeted.
Some 298 people were on board that flight -- from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur -- when it crashed in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border. All those on board were killed.
Coincidentally, Modi's aircraft from Frankfurt had been on the same route as the Malaysia Airlines plane, but just an hour behind the ill-fated flight, following which the prime minister's plane was re-routed.
The Indian prime minister was coming back from Brazil after attending the BRICS Summit there, after taking a stopover in Germany.
