Leonid Stadnyk, a 2.57-meter-tall Ukrainian believed to be the tallest man in the world, died from cerebral hemorrhage on August 24, according to China News Service.

The 44-year-old farmer used to wear size 70 clothing and size 62 shoes, all of which were tailor-made.

One of his neighbors said the giant man was very kind and sympathetic. He never married. Stadnyk was never officially measured by Guinness World Records as he was too shy.

His height was believed to be the result of a tumor in his brain which over-stimulated his production of growth hormone since the age of 12, a disease known as gigantism.
