Speaking prior to the announcement of the results, the Chairperson of the CNE, Abdul Carimo listed a number of irregularities, crimes and electoral illicits registered during the electoral process.

"Not all was positive. Investigations are underway," said Carimo.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court announced Thursday that it decided to nullify voting in 26 polling stations in Tete province due to irregularities, and the CNE will decide whether or not to reorganize the voting in these stations.

One of the country's best known political analysts, Gustavo Mavie, told the state Radio Mozambique on Wednesday morning that Dhlakama's rejection of the partial results has been influenced by western powers, such as the United States and Germany.

The state television station TVM also reported on Tuesday evening that the Mozambican government on Tuesday has called the ambassadors of some western nations in Maputo to complain over what it was described as interference in its internal affairs, mainly after the publication of the first results of the general elections.

The official station named the embassies of the U.S., Germany and Canada as some which have been organizing separate meetings with the oppositions' leaders for their support of the opposition Renamo's intentions to reject the official results and push for a government of national unity.

"Natural gas and coal we are discovering in our country are going to cause trouble. These countries have their eyes on them," Mavie said, adding that Dhlakama and Simango must recognize the results, because "the people made their choice as of who should govern them."

Another political analyst in Maputo, Eugenio da Camara, said that the winner of the presidential race will have in his table burning issues to go through, such as, to bring a long lasting peace to the war-feared country and its people following the government's talks with Renamo every week, and the management of mineral sources under discovery across the newly resouce-booming country.

The southern African country has announced a massive discovery of natural gas of over 200 trillion cubic feet off its coast, which, along with the influx of world-class liquified natural gas (LNG) project, may represent a transformational opportunity for Mozambique, one of Africa's poorest countries, to become a major exporter of LNG.
