China is planning to build a CRH (or China Railway High-speed) line connecting Beijing and Moscow to foster tourism between China and its neighboring countries, according to Zhang Guangrui, a researcher from Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Green Book of China's Tourism (2014-2015) released on Jan. 20 stated that China should attach great significance to tourism from its neighboring countries when developing international tourism. China is expected to cooperate with neighboring countries and regions effectively by making full use of its favorable geographic features and the support of its people.
High-speed rail travel will primarily be available to Northeast Asia, with links from China to South Korea, Russia, Mongolia and other countries, further strengthening China's bonds with West and South Asia, said Zhang. The Beijing-Moscow high-speed railway, which will be over 7,000 kilometers long, will be more convenient and efficient than ever before. It will only take two days to travel from Beijing to Moscow instead of the six days it takes currently.
Meanwhile, China should also emphasize the rejuvenation of the Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Road by providing more favorable policies for entry visas and establishing diversified tourism projects for cultural communication, Zhang suggested. The vitality of the Silk Road, a world heritage site, can be regained in part by transforming it into a channel to promote tourism with Chinese characteristics to the whole world.
