Algerian counter terrorism troops killed a leader of an Islamic State (IS)-linked terror group overnight Sunday, a security source said on Monday.
Mouloud Dahane, also know as Abu al-Mundir, was killed in Oued Sebt, in the province of Tipaza, by security forces acting on intelligence tips, the source said on condition of anonymity.
A Kalashnikov submachine gun and two grenades were seized in the operation, the source added.
Dahane was believed to be behind recent terrorist attacks in the province of Tipaza, including a bombing that targeted a checkpoint of National Gendarmerie in January.
The source said Dahane was planning to conduct more attacks on military sites in Cherchell of Tipaza province.
