The South Korean government is seriously mulling over dispatching military troops to quake-hit Haiti to take part in the U.N. peacekeeping operations (PKO), local media reported Tuesday.
"Due to heightening security concerns in Haiti, the United Nations has been urging member states for an increase in deployment," a government source was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency.
The U.N. Security Council passed a resolution Monday requesting 1,500 more police officers and 2,000 additional military troops from its member states to participate in its humanitarian operations in Haiti, the source added.
South Korea announced Monday it will increase its emergency aid to Haiti to 10 million U.S. dollars.
