The six-day 12th session of the Standing Committee of the 10th
National
People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, opened in
Beijing Friday, during which drafts of the law on real right
(relating to property rights), bankruptcy and offenses against
public order will be deliberated.
The lawmakers will also review the draft amendment to Electoral
Law for the NPC and Local People's Congresses and Organic Law,
stipulating how Local People's Congresses and their constituent
bodies are structured and run.
Meanwhile, the draft amendment to the solid waste pollution
prevention law will be submitted to the legislature for the first
time.
Top legislators will deliberate on the report made by the
Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate on
improving grass roots organization and on reports on the
implementation of Law on Compulsory Education and Trade Union
Law.
The State Council, the Chinese cabinet, will also submit a
report on paying interest on a special treasury bond issued in
1998.
