The Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference (CPPCC),
China's top advisory body, on Thursday pledged to improve and
strengthen its consultative function so as to better serve the
nation in building an overall well-off society and pushing forward
socialist modernization.
The 32nd meeting of the chairman and vice chairpersons of the 10th
National Committee of the CPPCC adopted a proposal put forth by the
Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), in
relation to further strengthening the work of the CPPCC.
Jia
Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said that
the proposal would play a guiding role in the work of the CPPCC in
the new century.
The proposal clearly stipulates the principles, tasks, and
procedures necessary for the CPPCC to fulfill its functions, Jia
said.
The implementation of this document will be of great significance
to developing a socialist democracy and building a harmonious
socialist society, he added.
The CPC and eight non-Communist parties in China constitute the
main framework of the CPPCC, based on the principle of "multi-party
cooperation" and "political consultation."
Jia on Thursday also urged good preparations for the fourth annual
full session of the 10th CPPCC National Committee, scheduled to
open in Beijing on March 3.
