China has called on Japan to work together and take "concrete
action" to repair their relations.
"I hope Japan will join hands with China and take concrete
action to steer relations back onto a normal track of healthy and
stable development," said Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan in his meeting with Ichiro Ozawa,
leader of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), the country's
largest opposition party.
Tang said China attached great importance to relations between
the two countries. He stressed that the healthy and stable
development of bilateral relations would tally with the fundamental
interests of the two nations, assist facilitate the maintenance of
peace in Asia and the world and promote common
prosperity.
Tang spoke positively of Ozawa's long-term contribution to the
development of Sino-Japanese relations noting that Ozawa had played
an important role in promoting healthy and stable bilateral
ties.
Tang also expressed his appreciation of Ozawa's decade-long
efforts to promote the Great Wall Program.
Responding to Tang's proposal, Ozawa noted that Japan-China
relations were vitally important and the two sides should make
concerted efforts towards their development.
Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the
Communist Party of China Central Committee, also met with Ozawa on
Monday afternoon. They exchanged views on issues concerning party
relations and bilateral ties.
