Pop singer Chen Lin, who committed suicide by jumping off a residential building on Nov. 1, is said to have been afflicted by her unhappy marriage for a long time, according to latest media reports.

The singer, who remarried three months ago with musician Zhang Chaofeng, never walked out of the shadow from her failed marriage with ex-husband Shen Yongge, one of Chen's friends said.

Chen and Shen Yongge, boss of once-prosperous Zhu Shu music label, married in 1995 and Chen released three albums that pushed her to the peak of her career under the label.

The two divorced in 2007 and Shen reportedly got married again soon after the divorce.

Chen was emotionally stricken by the failure of her twelve-year marriage with Shen, confirmed another friend of Chen's, and she was unhappy with her second husband. The couple is said to have fallen out a lot since they tied the knot.

The singer had been down in spirit recently and she tried to kill herself half a month ago, said one of her friends in anonymity.

Her death sparked many speculations in the media because of the day she killed herself was also her ex-husband's birthday.

Chen Lin was found dead on early Nov. 1 morning and her autopsy result will be published in a week. It's rumored her mother has appealed for legal investigation into Chen's death.

The singer rose to stardom in 1993 with her debut album "I Never Know Your Love", which sold over 1.5 million copies.
