The TV series featuring four women living in a modern Chinese city, My Close Friends, will be released soon. Unlike the quirky American soap Sex and the City, the drama focuses on the day-to-day lives of four young Chinese women - an office-worker, a teacher, a "sea turtle" (Chinese who has worked overseas and then returned to China) and a migrant woman worker from the countryside. They go through the trials and tribulations of city life but all four characters remain diligent, positive and supportive of each other.
The series is a warm and touching work, says the director Kang Honglei, who has produced the runaway success drama series My Chief and My Regiment (Wo de Tuanzhang Wo de Tuan) and Soldiers Sortie (Shibing Tuji). Kang is famous for portraying steel-willed men but he is also confident about presenting the relatively soft but determined female characters in his work this time round. "I wish everyone finds hope and strength after watching the series," Kang says. The drama features many A-list actors and actresses, including Yuan Quan, Ke Lan and Wang Baoqiang.
