Dai's daughter told reporters outside the hospital that his father was admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning following a sudden coronary heart disease and its complications.

Dai moved to Hong Kong in the 1960s from China's mainland. He later studied singing and music in Japan before coming back to Hong Kong.

He had made significant contributions to the development of Hong Kong's pop music since he was former teacher to such famous pop stars as Zhang Mingmin, Andy Lau, Leon Lai and Faye Wong, according to local media.
