The 2010 Presentation of Classic Stage Works is slated to be the largest-scale and longest exhibition of state-owned troupes in recent years, according to the Ministry of Culture, organizer of the event.
A total of nine performance groups, including such prestigious companies as China National Peking Opera Company, National Theatre of China, China National Symphony Orchestra and the China Central Ballet Troupe will together perform 32 shows running from August 3 until September 4.
Besides Man Jiang Hong, featured genres include drama, dance and symphonic concerts. Both classical repertoire and new works will be staged, such as those by China Children's Art Theatre, which will present five modern adaptations, all of which have earned both public and critical acclaim.
The theater's five plays include a production of Sun Bird, which draws from the legend Hou Yi Shoots Down the Suns, the classic Journey to the West and Chinese Zodiac by Australian Peter Wilson, a director involved in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games closing ceremony.
