Troubled Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan was reportedly released from a rehabilitation center on Tuesday after serving about 23 days of a 90-day court-ordered commitment, according to various online reports.
The 24-year-old actress was whisked through a back door of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and into a waiting limousine, avoiding a waiting crowd of media and paparazzi gathered outside the hospital, the celebrity news website RadarOnline reported.
The news of the actress's early release was swirling around and she was widely believed to be set free on Wednesday as she had a court hearing scheduled to discuss the possibility of an expedited release, but lawyers reportedly worked behind the scenes to orchestrate her early exit.
Officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and Los Angeles Superior Court could not be reached for immediate comment.
Doctors at the rehab center determined Lohan did not have a serious addiction problem that would require inpatient care, the celebrity website TMZ.com reported previously. The actress is expected to continue visiting the hospital two to three times a week for outpatient treatment, various online reports said.
Lohan is also said to be seeking permission to go to New York City in early September, where her mother, Dina, has said her daughter will be able to live a more healthy life than in Los Angeles.
The "Mean Girl" star checked into the inpatient substance-abuse program Aug. 2, the day she was released from jail after serving about 13 days of a 90-day sentence for violating her probation in a pair of DUI cases.
A court hearing in the case is scheduled for Wednesday morning. It was unclear whether Lohan would attend.
Lohan was arrested on two occasions in 2007 when she crashed a 12-cylinder Mercedes-Benz into a hedge along Sunset Boulevard near the Beverly Hills Hotel under suspicion of drunken driving. She was sentenced to a day in jail, but spent a total of 84 minutes at the Century Regional Detention Facility and was placed on three years probation.
Lohan's probation was later extended for a year after she missed some alcohol-education classes while making a movie in Texas.
