NCPA Spring Art Tour 2011 Preview

The NCPA(National Center for the Performing Arts)will launch its "Happy New Year, NCPA Art Tour 2011" for the first time from Feb. 3 to 8.

1. Chamber Concert

Time: 09:30-10:30 / 13:00-14:00

Venue: West Cafe

Chamber music refers to small-scale instrumental music by one or several instruments. It is different from large-scale orchestral music and can also be understood as a cell of the full-length symphonies. It emphasizes communications between the musicians and as well as interaction with the audience. The audience can share the subtle emotional expressions among musicians and also appreciate the mystery of large-scale orchestral instruments through such small instruments.

 

2. Chinese Shadow Play

Presenter: Beijing Shadow Play Troupe

Time: 14:00-14:30 / 15:30-16:00

Venue: Fifth Space Stage (South Public Hall)

Shadow Play is a traditional Chinese folk art with a history of more than 2,000 years. Known as a precursor of modern cinema, shadow play is a kind of drama in which silhouettes made of hard paper, buffalo and donkey hide are projected onto a white screen. The performer manipulates the characters behind the screen while singing the story. Lu Baogang (intangible cultural heritage inheritor & the 5th generation descendant of Lu Troupe) will perform and demonstrate the charms of shadow play.

 

3. Peking Opera "Red Cliff"

Time: 10:00-11:00 / 13:30-15:30

Venue: In front of Gate N. T6, Theatre

Under the principle of "respecting for tradition and making innovation," the Peking Opera "Red Cliff" retells the story of the "Three Kingdoms" on a grand stage, which tends to attract a younger audience that appreciates and savors the quintessence of Chinese culture.

 

4. Special Exhibition: Ancient Chinese Rhyme

Dates: Dec. 20-Feb. 28

Venue: East Exhibition Hall, North Underwater Corridor

"Ancient Chinese Rhyme," – a special exhibition for musical, cultural relics of ancient central China—focuses on the essence of musical, cultural relics unearthed in central China. Starting from primitive society, it presents a comprehensive scroll for the historical evolution of musical culture in central China, which covers the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, the Eastern and Western Han, Wei and Jin Dynasties, the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.

 

5. Leon Fleischer Piano Recital

Date: 19:30,February 4

Venue: Concert Hall

 

6. Andras Schiff Piano Recital

Date: 19:30,February 27

Venue: Concert Hall

Pianists from around the world will perform 15 concerts in the "International Piano Series 2011," which runs from February to December 2011.
