Veteran singer Na Ying attended the 11th annual ceremony for "Top Chinese Music Chart Awards" on Monday, April 11, 2011 in Dongguan city |
Veteran singer Na Ying criticized China's music circle for what she called a lack of dignity when she attended the 11th annual ceremony for "Top Chinese Music Chart Awards" on Monday.
As chairwoman of the judging panel, Na said more musicians and industry professionals should have shown up for the event, because rampant online music piracy is threatening the industry, the "Beijing Morning Post" reported.
Na was disappointed by the absence of many veterans who were supposed to attend the star-studded event. She also recognized efforts by many talented, young artists such as Li Yuchun and Han Geng, praising their devotion and diligence to their work.
Known as the Chinese Grammy Awards, the "Top Chinese Music Chart Awards" was established in 2001 and has become the main event of the music industry. It recognized mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan artists separately.
But as of this year the rules have been changed so that award categories eliminate regional differences.
Singer Zhou Bichang and Li Jian won the award for Best Female and Best Male Artists at this year's event.
